Diane Gargya
Diabetes Educator

Chronic diseases such as diabetes can be difficult and tiring to manage alone. Heidelberg West Medical endeavours to provide patients with the support and resources to reach their best health possible, and we are proud to offer diabetes education as part of our allied health services. Our credentialled diabetes educator, Diane Gargya, is available for consultations at our Heidelberg West clinic.
If you are living with type 1 or 2 diabetes, diabetes education may be beneficial for you. Through Diane’s patient-centred practice, you will gain the skills and knowledge to self-manage your condition. Both individual and group sessions are available. In addition to practicing as a diabetes educator, Diane has been a practicing pharmacist for over a decade. She is also a lecturer at RMIT School of Health and Biomedical Sciences. Dietetic services at Heidelberg West Medical are provided by Nutrition Health and Wellbeing.

Rebecca is an Accredited Practising Dietitian who is passionate about simplifying nutrition to empower and support her clients to live their fullest and healthiest life. Rebecca translates evidenced-based nutrition into practical strategies to help you make sustainable dietary changes. Rebecca values your needs and provides personalised nutrition advice that promotes your individual health goals.

Her areas of speciality include weight management, heart health, diabetes management, nutrient and mineral deficiencies and gut health including irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), diverticular disease, coeliac disease and food intolerances. Rebecca is a Monash FODMAP Trained Dietitian and is experienced in supporting clients with IBS through the Low FODMAP Diet to achieve symptom relief.

Melbourne Foot & Ankle Group specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of many conditions of the foot and ankle. These include ingrown toenail removal surgery, bunions, cracked heels, athlete’s foot, diabetic foot screening, sports podiatry, joint alignment, knee pain, gait analysis, and foot health screening for both adults and children.

Avril Lunken
Occupational Therapist

Using everyday activities as treatment, occupational therapy helps patients living with injury or disability to develop, recover, or improve. Our occupational therapist, Avril Lunken, specialises in the treatment of lymphoedema. Caused by an accumulation of lymphatic fluid, lymphoedema presents as the swelling of limbs: most commonly the arms and legs. Avril is a professional member of the Australasian Lymphology Association and is registered with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Additionally, she holds a Diploma in Occupational Therapy from the UK. Avril works with all age groups, from children to adults. With sensitivity and consideration for your needs, she can provide education, support, and advice on the use of appropriate compression garments. If you are suffering from lymphoedema, please book an appointment for your GP to request referral to this specialised service.

Tom graduated from La Trobe University in 2015 with a Master of Physiotherapy Practice and Bachelor of Health Science.  Tom has experience in dealing with a wide range of musculoskeletal and sports injuries both in their acute and chronic forms.  He enjoys working collaboratively with all his patients to achieve their health and fitness goals through the latest evidence-based techniques.

Tom has acquired valuable experience in injury prevention and management while working as the Physiotherapist for the Sandringham Dragons in the AFL NAB League and the Darebin Falcons in the VFLW competition.
